Re: Glucagon test - has anyone had one?
I have had two done since I posted the previous message. The first one was abandoned as I blacked out fairly near the beginning. This wasn't due to the test itself, but because I seem to be prone to blacking out when I'm having lots of bloods taken and am off the Hydrocortisone for the test to be valid. The Endo nurse stressed that blacking out is not something that usually happens with this test.
I think that they usually do the Insulin Tolerance Test with people when they are looking at possible pituitary problems. But if there are any issues with seizures etc. they opt for the Glucagon.
The second test went well in that I completed it all and it has made me closer to a diagnosis. I felt very cold and a bit shaky after the glucagon injection had kicked in. For the last two hours I felt nauseous, but I wasn't sick. The injection itself was relatively painless. I soon felt much better after the test was over and I could have a glucose drink and then a sandwich.
The test looks at Adult Growth Hormone level and cortisol level. My endo also took lots of other blood samples before the main test - thyroid etc.
Hope this helps
