Testing for Addisons

My husband is a severe asthmatic and has been on daily predinisone for years. He cannot discontinue the prednisone. How can he be tested for Addisons disease if he cannot get off steroids?

Re: Testing for Addisons

Your doctor can request a 24 hour urine sample /test to be done. It's mainly to check the cortisol and catecholamine levels over a 24 period. Another test would be blood pressure test when lying and another when standing. Another would be pressing on abdomen in the adrenal areas, and take blood pressure. There are a few symptoms as well, such as lightheadedness, sweating, pallor, headaches, rapid heart beats, anxiety....these can occur in' episodes' when ever pressure is exerted on the adrenal glands. Such as going from a sitting position to standing up. There are quite a few more depending on the condition. see a doctor if you are worried.
