Whats wrong with my grandma???? - Aging Issues Message Board

hey!
could someone help me im really worried about my grandma...ok she's 77 and her memory and hearing isn't good as it use to be, like two years ago she's was fine and able to remember loads of things now even the smallest thing and she cant remember it. This isn't always the case she can remember things from when she was little but things in the present like what happened afew weeks ago she forgets.....also her hearing is getting pretty bad sometimes i have to shout things to her (i hate doing that), its like she's livin in her own world.. i know this partly to do with her age but could she be developing dementia? she refuses to except the fact that her memory is going and she is hard of hearing ....GEEZ ...what should i do? i dont think i could live without my grandma she's more like my mom than anything and i live with her...i also recently came back from vaccation with my grandma and family and she said 'this will be my last vaccation' what does she mean by that? i think i know, but it makes me upset and cry first my uncle died i dont want anything to happen to my grandma i need her i cant live without her PLEASE HELP??

it is my understanding that dimentia and alzheimers while similiar are different ailments...and it might be good for your grandmother to see a dr ...if they diagnose alzheimers there are medications that she can be given that will slow the progression of the disease...

hey thank u for the reply i was begining to think nobody cared thats why i asked the moderators to take it off the board ...anyways..im going to see how things go for afew weeks before i seek any sort of help..thanx once again 4 ur input!!

did you ever think that people didnt reply because maybe they thought you were sorry you wrote it in the first place and thats why you wanted it taken off..i think that poeple on these boards do care about other people for the most part...as for your grandmother..its my opinion that nothing can really be gained by waiting..if it is alzheimers the earlier it is caught the better...
