Depression solved, new dilemma please help me I am so afraid - Aging Issues Message Board

I really appreciate all the assistance and advice I received for my grandfather. He is doing quite a bit better. I hope somebody can help me, I will try to be brief. My grandfather decided to go to the nursing home to get better. He improved. The new problem is my aunt would like to take my grandmother . She will not take my grandfather. He can take care of himself but needs to be watched. He was in the nursing home and cried to come home so my uncle took him out. My mother does not know what to do she lives in Florida. I know she would take him home to live. My mom says he does not want to leave my grandmother. I feel like I'm a losing proposition. I will bring my grandfather to Seattle if he wants. I don't care about anyone else. I cannot believe what my aunt is doing. Any suggestion would be appreciated. I have not talked to my aunt I feel she is very evil. I'm very disappointed in my uncles. My grandmother says it is just an act for attention. I get very angry but keep my mouth shut. I know there is not a right answer here. I have a condo but it is on the second floor. I would have a bedroom for him. Steps would be a problem. But he would not be going out too much. I worked a time as the custodian in our school district. I can't stand the thought of my grandfather living like that. I don't have the resources to buy a house for him to live in. I keep thinking god let me won the lottery. Sorry for being so emotional. Any help or ideas, thanks Michael

I do not know what the answer is for your grandfather. However, I do know that his heart is broken being away from his wife of many years. It is very hard on older people when they are separated from their spouse.

Not knowing the circumstances as to your aunt taking only one makes it more difficult to provide help. Caring for 2 elderly people would be difficult.

Is there a way for your grandparents to stay in their home together and have a caregiver take care of them?

my recommondation would be to go to legal aid in your grandparents state where an attorney would be given to you based on your income. Then, you could have your grandparents sign over power of attorney of themselves in your name. Then after that, you can go back to your home state where you can apply for public assistance which can give you help with food, shelter costs, medical and even utility costs.
