This is a problem for fairly obvious reasons. Retirement won't be much fun without some extra money for movies, travel and other forms of entertainment and recreation. They may have to cut back on expenditures for such items as heat, air conditioning, certain healthy foods, dental care and other health care items.
2) Many people retire with the same eating habits they had as teenagers and they have no intentions of changing their habits. They often think that eating (highly processed foods) is one of the few things they have left to enjoy. So, again, they are ill prepared to deal with the rigors of their up coming older years.
3) Many, if not most, have no living will. They have no "exit" plan whatsoever and will leave everything to luck.
Are there any agencies in your community that address these problems?
All of the above are primarily dependent on personal responsibility. Is there an agency that teaches personal responsibility? There aren't any that I'm aware of. Although, libraries have many books on these issues.
Thanks for the good thought-provoking questions.
