Do you know whether you are allergic to anything in particular such as wool or latex? You may be allergic to something in your sleepwear, bedding or anything else that you normally touch or use only at bedtime. For example, if you shower before going to bed, the allergy could be to an ingredient in your soap, lotion or towel. Another possibility is a food or medicine that you take within an hour of going to bed.
Bedtime showers/baths - you may be overdrying your skin if you: use very warm water, use an exfoliating product such as a loofah, and dry off completely instead of lightly. You should also apply moisturizer, even vaseline, while your skin is slightly damp to help keep your skin's moisture locked in.
For itch - about the only products that really work are Benedryl [esp. for allergies] and cortisone creams, although Seldane also sometimes helps for this type of itch. The problem with these meds is their long-term side-effects and possible drug interactions if you're taking any other meds.
Diet helps but it requires several weeks before any relief is obtained; Vitamin C, EFAs [essential fatty acids] and Vitamin E are the principal skin nutrients. |
