Eye allergies??? - Allergies Message Board

Are any of you having trouble with allergies in your eyes? I have not been able to wear my contacts for 2 weeks now and my eyes are blood shot and look awful.
When I got my contacts he said he could see allergies in my eyes and I dont know why I didnt think to ask him for anything to help it. I was using eye drops to take the red out for years and didnt know it was bad for you and I think some of that redness is from that. I did try one time to use a drop (over the counter)and I woke up the next morning with swelling.
Sorry so long, anyone else have this??

you shouldn't use redness reliever for more than 3 days.. the bottle should even say so.. give your eyes a rest for a few days.. and use rewetting drops..

Thanks for the reply wake!

Back when I didnt know any better I used the stuff to get the red out all the time and now I never use it because I think it gave me rebound redness plus the allergies. All I use now is the rewetting drops but they dont do a thing for the red.

You definitely should not wear your contacts if your eyes are red or itchy or giving you any other kind of discomfort. Try using preservative free tear drops when your contacts aren't in. Is it possible that you are actually allergic to the rewetting solution that you are using? Maybe using it so often is irritating you even more. If you want to use an over the counter allergy drop, try something like Naphcon-A or Vasocon-A. They used to be prescription drops. An ophthalmologist once recommended it to me. They are not redness reducers, so they won't harm you. But actually your best bet is to go to an ophthalmologist and get treated for your eye allergies. This is going to be one of the worst allergy seasons in a long time, and if you have eye allergies then you need to get checked out and be told exactly what to use. I recommend that you just use plenty of tear drops and forget about the contacts until you can see an ophthalmologist. It is also best to use tears that are preservative free such as Bion Tears or Thera Tears so that there are no preservatives to further irritate your eyes.
