Lightbulb Allergies in the stomach anyone?

Hi, I have just found this board, hello to everyone. I was following a lead about allergies in the stomach and this web site came up.

I had a lot of problems 3 years ago and was very sick, never got to the bottom of it, no one understood and painfully never got treatment or recognition.

I am scared it seems to be restarting. Starts with continual stomach pain for some weeks now and pain when eating sometimes. Then next reactions to innocuous things, for instance I took an acidophilous tablet - the same stuff you find in yoghurt and a slippery elm tablet (made from bark), and ended up with a scarey reaction and at the doctors they said I'd had a reaction. It's not an allergic reaction per se - it's not exactly immediate - doesn't peak straight away or anphilactic. Continued next para:

Last time my stomach was blown out (by prescription medicidine, then I became allergic to drugs and finally tomatoes followed by all foods no one believed me. Each reaction got worse and worse than the one before. Typically I would be very weak but when a reaction was going on I would have raised bloodpressure and be up and about - sometimes walking like I had arthritis throughout my body (I also had food poisoning and I believe related inflammatory arthritis at the same time - didn't help - again no treatment sick for months sicker sicker beyond being sick). Continued next parag.

Oh yeah, the last reaction I'd been fearfully living on water with sugar and salt for a week nothing else, the afterhours doctor laughed it off (who was also my gp at the time .. come now we don't want you not eating, and to humor me, or perhaps he gave me chocolate drink cancer patients drink and said I'd be ok with that). Against my feelings (I couldn't get admission into hospital) I took the drink, it then transpired on my own my whole body filled up with red saggy fluid all over (I couldn't get anyone to come and see me in the middle of the night, and all the a and e department said was if you die that'll be medical misadventure). Anyhow by morning the fluid was gone (still noone would treat me), but instead I was feeling I was going unconcious and crawled into a bed (thinking that was the end for me soon). I then preceded to get a strange burst of energy and wrongly thinking (because I'd heard people doing this before they die I assumed I was dying -which I wasn't.
As you can see it was not very pleasant and I don't mean to shock you. Anyhow suffice to say (new para)

(If I don't have breaks it'll be hard to read), I do not! want to go there again. I also developed a nasty psychosis following that period which I believe was set off by allergies. What I believe is the key to cool off my stomach but I feel it is too late as something has already started happening. I find it difficult I feel to find doctors who believe or know anything about food, chemical, allergies. Today someone gave me the name of the women's health collective and I will try to persue for help there.

In the past I have had epstein barr (glandualar fever and mononucleuouis).

I am trying to find out about allergies in the body, particularly set off by the stomach. I also have several times, I only made the conection to something bad two days ago, I knew I was having a bad run and I wasn't happy, but that.. I have also woken up with again the other night, really sore burning eyes which I think is another auto immune symptom.

I would gratefully like to hear anyones suggestions about where to go or how to treat (I'd seek medical opinion of course) but I really need to clarify what I'm talking about in order to get any kind of help if there is any out there. If you've heard of this or have experienced it yourself please contact me.

Thank you very much.

There are two types of allergic reaction. Firstly, there is the classic IgE antibody reaction which will cause your classic hives, itching, sore eyes and anaphylaxis. This can be tested for with skin ***** tests. Sore and itching eyes would be caused by this kind of allergic reaction.

Next, there is a delayed reaction which happens in the gut and rather than being an allergy, this is what is known as an intolerance and is not a true allergy, being mediated by IgG antibody, which is in the gut. There is no IgE in the gut . This is more of an intolerance as sometimes after eating, you will not notice a reaction until 24 to 48 hours later. To test for these, you need to have bloods taken and then they are mixed with certain foods and then IgG and they wait to see if there is a delayed reaction.

It does sound as if you could have a mixture of both, as itching watery eyes are classic allergy symptoms IgE mediated, whereas the stomach reactions sound like food intolerances to me.

If I were you, I would get a referral to get some allergy tests done. It would get skin ***** tests done to check the IgE allergies, but also get blood tests done for the IgG, as it sounds likely that you could have lots of food intolerances. Could even be food allergies too, although, during an anaphylactic reaction, your blood pressure is more likely to fall sharply rather than rise.

It could be that you could have Celiac Spru also and this is Gluten intolerance. I would suggest that you get checked out for this too to make absolutely sure.

Go and find another doc who will take you seriously and get this checked out.

Good luck

I'm sorry you are feeling so bad. I can relate. Here is something to consider: Some of your symptoms sound like they could be related to a systemic yeast overgrowth.

I have this problem too. I am seeing a Naturopath and she has helped me tremendously. I am finding out what foods I shouldn't eat because they give me trouble.

Wheat, dairy, corn, tomatoes and citrus are the most common foods that give problems to people.

I strongly suggest you seek nutritional guidance.

Thank you very much for your messages. You've given me different ways to consider it.

I went to the women's health collective (they are lay people) and they looked up on their computer, they have health people recorded and comments from people who've seen them. I've found a clinic of general practioners (gp doctors) who focus on food and allergies, and they have all these weird tests (interesting because they've got some machinery I've never heard of). I go on Monday and just have to hang in there. If I find out anything, hopefully, I'll let you know. Thank you for replying. All the best too.
