hives and penicllin - Allergies Message Board

ok, so my friend got strepe throat around january this year. the doctor gave him penicillin and got really BAD hives all over his body. they did not go away until 3 months later!!!! everyone initally thought that these "hives" were chicken pox but it ended up that they were not. a week ago he got strepe again and the doctor gave him penicillin once again. he has started to break out in the same hives he had before! is there anyway that he can make these go away fast and also to help with the itching??? please help! is there any shots or anything???

First off, he needs to tell the Dr about the hives, as it sounds like he is allergic to pennecillin and needs a different treatment for the strep!

At the same time, he needs to immediately STOP taking the pennecillin and take some benadryl for relief of the hives. The Benadryl is the best bet for getting rid of them.

I just had my first hives outbreak yesterday as the reuslt of some food that i am allergic to. anyways, this happened sunday when i started to severely itch, i didnt notice the hives until yesterday and i went to the doctor. ocne there, i was given a shot to relieve some of the itching. They also prescrived some pillas both to reduce hives and control itching. So i would have him go to the docotor believe me it helps. No mor pen.!
