Can anyone tell me what the best meds/remedies are for stuffy nose? I can't take decongestants because of tachycardia but my DR said I can take antihistamines. Any that don't cause insomnia?
I'm on nasacort but it causes insomnia. PLus that stuff costs $85. Other than that I like it okay except for not sleeping. I don't want to get hooked on taking sleeping pills.
Advice, input appreciated.

Here is my protocol for treating rhintis -and I have a BAD case of it

1. Irrigate twice a day, once in the morning, and around 7pm. I use warm water, 10-20% Alkalol, sea salt, and Nettle Leaf. I use a Grossan hydro pulse machine (about $100), but other machines work just as well.
2. I take Astelin twice a day. This seems to be working out well.
3. I use saline nasal sprays and Sinufresh.
4. I use Nasocort once daily, before going to bed.

My NEW technique, is to use a Conair "Facial Sauna", a kind of steam mask for the face and sinuses. This seems to help as well (only about $30).

I can breathe through my nose for the first time in over 3 months. My allergist said I had some of the worst nose problems she had ever seen, between bacterial infection, allergic rhinitis, and vasomotor rhinitis.

I take Clarinex which doesn't make me sleepy(although it makes you a little sick the first day or 2 when you start it) daily, Flonase 2 sprays in each nostril daily, & Singulair..seems to help also.

I take Astelin twice a day, and Rhinocort once a day. For those of you who are taking either, do they make you tired?

I use Nasonex twice a day. (The allergist said Rhinocort is better, but my insurance won't cover it.) I was using two times each morning, which is what the bottle said to do, but I was too congested at night. The doctor said it's better to use it once in the morning and once at night. Same for Rhicocort. He said to never used more than two squirts in each nostril for the entire day. It's much better now. I can tell I'm snoring less and have less post-nasal drip in the morning.

I tried irrigating with saline. It didn't make any difference, but it was kinda fun.
