Exclamation nasal discharge

In November, I had my sinus surgery. Since January, my ent has had me on Astelin twice a day and Rhinocort once a day. I've noticed when I clean my nose out or blow it, the discharge is still colored sometimes .. Sometimes, it is clear, sometimes it is yellow, sometimes it is just an ugly color. Does this still mean that I have something going on? I was taking Astelin twice a day, but cut it down to once a day, because it was making me too tired at work. Also, I am still getting pressure in my sinuses, and sometimes can feel it release. Before Ieven saw the ent, my primary doctor had a ct scan done, which showed sinusitis. Anyways, is it possible I still have it? Since my ent wont do allergy testing on me yet, I took it upon myself to make an appointment at an allergy center that specializes in sinusitis.

You made the right decision getting an appt at an allergy center that specializes in sinusitis. I can only speak for myself but I am highly allergic and have recurrent sinusitis. Three different ENTs over 8 years have told me they can do nothing for me, because mine is all allergy related. The last ENT recommended that when I feel my sinuses start to act up, I should increase the amount of rinsing with a saline rinse and increase my rhinocort dosage to as many as three sprays in each nostril daily. That does seem to be helpful, but I've only had one near episode since I saw him in early January. Obviously don't increase or change your meds until you've talked with the allergist. Good luck!

Re: nasal discharge

Go back to your ENT and have him perform an endoscopy. He will be able to see if there is any puss or infection present.

I would HIGHLY recommend doing some kind of irrigation, preferably with a machine, or a spray bottle. I do this twice daily (1000ml), to clean the junk out of my nose.

I was doing irrigation and he told me to back off with it, but if I wanted to continue, I could. I've noticed lately, my nose has been hurting a little, and it's on the side where I had the surgery. Not terrible, but dull ache every now and then. He does the endoscope every time I go to see him to see how it is healing. Not last time, but the time before that, he told me he saw no fungus growing in there. I also have been getting sharp headache pain on my left side that lasts for a few seconds. Does anyone know if it is wise to get my air ducts cleaned at home?

Re: nasal discharge

Don't get your air ducts cleaned. My allergist said that this doesn't do anything, and may make your allergies even worse.

Get a furnace filter (99 cents), and cut off a peice of it. Then put this over the air duct in your bedroom.

The pain in your face could be nerve related. I noticed that after I had my endoscopy, I had a few, very localized headaches on the right side of my face. By the next day, they were gone.

If your doctor said that he didn't see any fungus or bacteria in there, you are probably o.k. from an infection standpoint.
