Grass allergy? - Allergies Message Board

My daughter just recently has been coming out in hives about once a week or so, sometimes more. They don't last very long but they drive her crazy so we've been trying to work out what's causing it. The only common factor we can find is grass, it's always after she's been sitting or playing on grass.

Is it possible for just regular lawn turf to cause hives? And is there anything we can do to prevent it? She can't possibly avoid grass her whole life.

I had severe grass allergies as a little girl. In fact it got so bad that my Mother had to practically cover me from head to toe when I went outside but for the most part, I just didn't get in the grass. It's not that bad when a child can't get in the grass, just divert her attention to something else out of the grass. I remember ( and I'm 40 now) that when I went to an allergist years ago, my legs broke out so badly that the doc put a bunch of creme on my legs and wrap them in saran wrap!!! No fun!!!!! I still have allergies and asthma today!
