allergy shot question

I get allergy shots once every week. Last week I missed mine due to being sick with a fever. The allergist told me today when I got my shots that I could go back Thursday to catch up if I want to. Is this ok to do? I am not sure she knows what she's talking about, so I wanted to get everyone else's opinion on here. I am taking allergy shots bc I am allergic to most all grasses, trees, pollens, molds, dust, and some animals. My symptoms are mainly/and most annoyingly just feeling off balanced and somewhat dizzy (not vertigo feeling though). I don't want to double up on my allergy shots for this week if it will cause me to get congested and off balanced! What should I do?? By the way, I have had a CT scan and MRI and they both came up clear.

Re: allergy shot question

I have been taking allergy shots for 3 years and that is what you are surposed to do. Basiscally, they just go back and redo the previous weeks dose and then just continue.

Re: allergy shot question

Normally one can get the next planned dose a week late. Depending on where one is in building up to maintenance, sometimes one can go as long as two weeks without having to go down a dose. If you're that nervous about it, you don't have to get the next scheduled dose on Thursday, you can get the same dose you got last time.

Most allergists are very competent. Do you have any other reason to suspect that she doesn't know what she's talking about, because what she told you is very reasonable.

Cool Re: allergy shot question

I had allergy shots for 5 yrs, if I missed a shot I would go in the next week twice, one for the shot I missed then for my next regular shots, they were alway 3 or 4 days apart, I never had a problem with getting shots twice in one week. Hope this helps.

Re: allergy shot question

When I first started shots, I went twice a week every week until I got up to maintenance. Basically, you can go as often as you want (well, anywhere from twice a week to once every four weeks) without messing anything up. If you go more than three or four weeks (or whatever the doc's policy is) they drop you back to the previous dose rather than raising it. But there's no problem with going twice a week. My allergies were really bad, so going more often helped me get to the higher doses (and get results) faster.
