A doctor actually says using a hydrogen peroxide/salt/baking soda mixture will help combat sinus infections.

Some interesting notes...

1. Use COOL water. Warn or hot water actually INCREASES inflammation. This is a mistake I have been making for months. I was using very warm water when I irrigate -and wondering why I felt worse afterwards!

2. This is from personal experience. When you irrigate, try to use between 300-500ml. Afterwards, water drainage should come out BOTH nostrels, for about 15 minutes or so. If it only comes out one, you have an obstruction going on -either a severely inflammed passage, or a structural abnormality that is preventing drainage. You should see steady water flow from both sides. If it is bad enough, you should go get a CT Scan to see what is going on.

Since my sinuses are bugging me again, I'm going to try 3 days on hydrogen peroxide and see what happens.

N.B. Don't take any quinolone drugs (Avelox, Levaquin, Cipro). The side-effects are debilitating, and you will be replacing one problem (sinuses), with another (tendinopathy, neuropathy, etc.)

I think it's irresponsible for any of us to say "don't take <insert FDA approved drug here>". Different people necessitate different types of treatment. Before I started Xolair, I averaged 9 upper respiratory infections a year. Quinolone antibiotics are the only thing left that works for me, other than IV antibiotics in the hospital. Admittedly quinolones should only be taken under certain conditions and admittedly a lot of folks can't tolerate them. That said, quinolones are very effective in the treatment of bacterial sinusitis. I've never had a problem with them and I'm quite sure Levaquin helped save my life last summer.

There are other antibiotics, such as Augmentin or even Vancomycin if things get really out of hand.

Quinolones should only be taken as a last resort. After surgery, other antibiotics, etc.

People have died outright from quinolones, especially Levaquin (liver failure, stevens johnson syndrome, etc.)
