chronic swollen lymph nodes

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone here has chronic swollen lymph nodes? I've had some slightly (5mm to a little over 1cm) swollen lymph nodes under my chin since July. Some are soft and some are rubbery. I've also had a couple on the other side of my neck since last year. They've never increased or decreased in size. I've talked to a few doctors about it and no one seems concerned. My dad and a friend of mine both said they've had nodes swollen in their neck for many years that never went away. I've had a post nasal drip non-stop for 2 years so my ENT said he thinks the nodes swelled because my allergies. However all the info on line about chronic swollen nodes is very scary and has gotten me nervous that I might have cancer. I started getting some hives last month and though I know these can also be caused by allergies or effects from a spinal misalignment I'm being treated for, it has also made me more nervous about lymphoma! I figured hearing that some others out there have had multiple swollen lymph nodes due to allergies for an extended period of time might make me feel better, so if this describes you, please submit a brief reply. I'd really appreciate it!!!

Thanks,
-S

Re: chronic swollen lymph nodes

I wouldn't worry too much. The ones by the edge of my jaw kinda under my ears are always a little swollen, and I've noticed that they get bigger and a little sore when my alergies/sinuses get worse. I also have constant pnd - still trying to figure out how to make that go away. So your doc is probably right that your allergies are causing it.

Re: chronic swollen lymph nodes

This happened with my mother and we immediately became concerned about the potential for cancer. The doctor ordered blood tests and a CAT scan and the results indicated there was no cancer present. If after seeing a few doctors, you're still not free of worry, then why not request a a couple of tests. It might go a long way towards putting your mind at ease. And wouldn't that be worth it?

Re: chronic swollen lymph nodes

Thanks so much for the responses! It's good to see I'm not the only one. I had a CBC done when my nodes first grew and it was fine, but I know from research that the only definitive way to determine whether someone has cancer is with a biopsy, which I don't want to put myself through if it's not necessary. I had calmed down a lot after I talked to the ENT, but then I started to develop some small hives and red spots on my hands / arms occasionally. I read that these things can be symptoms of cancer, so I got very nervous again, but I know they can also be signs of allergies, stress or spinal misalignment so I'm not sure what to think. I'm just trying to gain perspective. Thanks for the help....
