Best antihistimine???? - Allergies Message Board

I have had allergies pretty much all my life. I remember as a kid I was prescribed dimetabb when it was not sold OTC. Later I was prescribed hisminal (spelling?) but I believe that went off the market along with seldane. It seems that in the last few years I have tried many of these new prescription antihistimines (claritin, allegra, zyrtec) but I always seem to come back to benedryl. It dopes me up and I have to counteract the effects with coffee but it seems to work the best for me. So my question is...what have you all found to be the best antihistimine?

Have you tried being on a combo of antihistamines? Like a cocktail of different kinds together? What about altering the dose of the antihistamines?

No, actually I never had heard about using more than one antihistimine at a time. Does any one do this? What about side effects?

So chlortrimiton is considered stronger than benydryl?

I have been on combo meds (antihistamine) before. And I know of a lot of people with chronic hives that goes on combo meds. e.g Zantac + Zytrec...etc. The side effects are what each medicine could do to you if you take them individually. Antihistamines common side effects are dry mouth, drowsiness but the newer generation ones are less sedative. benedryl is very sedative as I know.
