Unhappy Need suggestions...........*****ly heat or pressure ???

Ok guys I am suffering from sever hives (not swelling or fluid filled uticeria) but it does feel really bad cauze it feels like needles *****ling my skin. I get it on my chest, top back and neck area. They all turn bright red an I start to feel heat and the urge to itch that area really bad. I noticed they come when I am hot (excercising, running) or wearing clothing which makes you sweat. I dont know if this is because my sweat pores are blocked and if it is photosensitivity or heat sensitivity. I get them more in winters as I come from outside to inside. The problem started two years ago when I was taking erythromycin and minocyclin for my acne. I noticed the little *****les and bumps on my hand and got freaked out since I didnt know what it was. I stopped it right after. I had allergy test done and everything came out negative which is good and bad. bad cauze now i know its either heat or light causing this . Does any of you have same problem and what do you do to control it. I will really appreciate the input.

Yes there is a name.. I have no clue how to say it, but it falls under the category for photosensitivity & you are not alone, I suffer from it also =(. It's basically a UV ray allergy. It was diagnosed for me based on the symptoms- that NEEDLELIKE feeling that feels like a deep sharp yet itchy pain, and manifests itself mainly on the chest, arms, legs & neck. Rarely affects the face or anywhere else. There is no cure or treatment, there is prevention, which is basically wearing the highest possible SPF available ALL over your body ALL the time. I feel your pain- everytime I go on vacation, this ruins the vacation. I had no idea what it was, but I talked to a dermatologist who told me the only thing you can do is put on the highest possible level of sunscreen. It's not *****ly heat, nor is it pressure.. it's UV ray allergy b/c I get it when I go tanning also. Your symptoms sound exactly like mine. See a dermatologist for an exact diagnosis.. though your symptoms are the exact same as mine & if you do some research on the internet you will find there is a name for this & though its pretty rare, it's recognized. It can be triggered by any kind of drugs, mine is triggered by birth control pills, though no one has told me that, I know that for sure b/c its the only thing besides my asthma meds I was taking at the time this started(ruined my Mexico vacation =( ). I can stand the sun here in IL but down south it's too strong & I have problems.. also have problems with tanning beds. Just get some reallys trong sunscreen, that's what the derm will tell you. well good luck let me know how it goes i'd love to hear how you cope with this since it is kind of rare & i've yet to hear of anyone like me or how they deal with it or am told... good luck

Re: Need suggestions...........*****ly heat or pressure ???

Hi Blondee15 thanks for your input , i really appreciate that. Its good to know someone who understand you. yeah my hives were triggered after taking the medication. The only problem is that it gets triggered even if i m not in the sun. like even during night time or evening if i m in home and if the heat is uncomfortable or if i just run or something and my body heats up.....these *****les/hives come back. yeah I am guessing there is no cure for this except prevention. Sorry to hear it affects your quality time. I am soon going to make another appointment and do the test for skin sensitivity for UV and also for heating conditions. It does make you frustrated sometime when you are with other people and this suddenly gets triggered. are you taking any antihistamine drugs for it?

Re: Need suggestions...........*****ly heat or pressure ???

I take Clarinex every morning(I have other allergies also) & when am flaring up like that, I take Benadryl at nite to help me sleep(this is what my doctor told me to do).
You bring up an interesting point- I tend to break out in random rashes & am allergic to several other things. What it has to do with the UV ray allergy, I have no idea. Then again i've been dealing with every kind of skin sensitivity/allergy since the day I was born so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I really like this cream by Prescriptives Cosmetics called Comfort Cream- it truley stops the rash in its tracks & it goes away. I use it at work(I work in cosmetics) when I get a rash there & I love it. You may also be triggered by things other than allergens, such as a detergent or soap or the soap you are using is too harsh. Don't use soap, look for a body wash that is gentle like Aveeno or Dove. Also make sure to put lotion on as soon as you get out the shower(within 5 mins) all over, using Cetaphil(Awesome lotion for sensitive skin). Another thing, may want to try using water a little cooler in the shower, hot water does nasty things to dry sensitive skin. Other than that, I would have another allergy test done & make sure they do it intradermal(injected not just scratch). well those are my best tips... good luck

Re: Need suggestions...........*****ly heat or pressure ???

For either of you, are your symptoms primarily in areas that were exposed to UV? Or do you feel it even in places that were covered?

My hives/swelling, which are pretty well suppressed by antihistimnes, are still simmering below the surface. At least that's how I think of it. The itch I get is very much like what you describe - it's very deep, and very intense, and feels like a needle, though not so painful. Almost a sting I guess. It's also only momentary in any given spot - once I scratch it it's gone. But no visible hives, just a bit of redness and swelling on my hands, but the bubbling itch is all over in random locations. I am very lucky as it's typically not problematic. It's still very strange though.

Kristi

Re: Need suggestions...........*****ly heat or pressure ???

Blondee15: yeah my doc also told me to take antihistamine tablets but I had to stop as it was making me sleepy during the day. I will ask for that cream with my pharmacist. Well I hope your test indicates whats causing the hives. Let me know how it goes. I am going back to allergry specialist too.

Kristi: Well good to know you isnt as worse but yeah when I get this feeling, it is very annoying cauze it doesnt go with scratching and I have to stop any task which made my body hot or get out of a heating room. My symptoms appear on neck, chest, upper back and (in the beginning on top of the hands and arms, dat doesnt happen anymore thank God) so most of these areas are covered daily. Well I dont get the swelling but the redness comes and really small bumbs kinda like goosebumps.
