Constant Phlegm w/ pseudomonas for 8 years - Allergies Message Board

I'm a 38 y/o female. About 8 years ago, I had a bad cold & have suffered with constant phlegm every since. They did a sputum-culture & found a psuedomonas infection. I have so much phlegm & every year it just gets worse. I have to "hack-up" this stuff 200-300 times each day!! They first sent me to an allergist. They did testing & I had allergy-shots for 10 months. Didn't help. Then I went to different ENT's & have tried all the nasal-sprays & pills. Nothing helped. They removed part of my nasal passages, didn't help either. Then they thought it might be gerd (I don't have heartburn) so I tried guaifenesin, protonix, reglan, omeprazole. Nothing worked. I tried the nasal WASH. It seemed to a help a little bit, but then it stopped. So, I tried a stronger/saltier solution, but it didn't help. Then I went to a Pulmonologist. He tried more Rx, the last one being Inhalers w/prednisone. Didn't help. He tested me for Cystic Fibrosis with the basic DNA blood test, it was negative. I had an endoscopy a couple weeks ago, it was normal. I saw an Infectious Disease Specialist because of the pseudomonas, & he can't figure out why I have the infection, because I don't have a fever & the typical symptoms. I tried Cipro, it doesn't get rid of it.

I'm at my wit's end here!! Any help or advice you can offer would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Have you had a sinus CT scan or MRI? This sounds chronic sinusitis. Also, 10 months is not long enough for allergy shots to start working. It usually takes 2 years of shots to get maximum relief.

Yes, I've had several sinus CT scans over the years, the last one being about a week ago. I had to quit the allergy shots, I was starting to have too many reactions to them. Thanks for reading my "lengthy" post!!

Ask the pulmonologist about primary ciliary dyskinesia. That's another problem that can cause pseudomonas infection. It has to be diagnosed through bronchial/nasal biopsy, so you might want to look into something like an immune deficiency first, if you haven't already.
