Should I discontinue Flonase if I have a viral URI?

My nose has really been burning the last few days, now it's moved to my throat/upper chest area. Yuck. I normally use Flonase a couple times a day to treat chronic PND. I still have alot of drainage going on, but I think I'm getting a cold. Should I stop using the Flonase? I'm just wondering if my body needs the symptoms to fight the cold. I was warned that viral infection was one of the side effects of Flonase because you're basically supressing your nasal immune system (overactive though it may be!!) when you use it.

So right now I have very little nasal stuffiness or sneezing going on which I assume is due to the Flonase use, but I have the sore throat, the burning chest that tells me a cough is coming, low grade fever, fatigue and the "foggy head" that I always get with a cold. My doc's appt. isn't til Wednesday, and it's next to impossible to get someone on the phone here.

Should I keep using the Flonase?

Re: Should I discontinue Flonase if I have a viral URI?

I would discontinue it for at least a week. Flonase is a steroid, and it can make you more susceptible to viral infections, or even fungal infections (that's why I don't use it).

But you can always call your doctor.
