Could this hearing problem be related to my allergies?

Yesterday my hearing got funny. Much more so in my left ear. First it hissed like my ear was going to ring. But instead of just stopping, it lessened and continued. Then the hearing in that ear was really sensitive to loud sounds. I got over a cold about 2wks ago but with my allergies, haven't been able to totally clear the mucus from the back of my throat. Drainage and runny nose. My allergies have been horrible this year. I don't really take anything for them. Just some decongestant when my sinuses bother me. Today it has lessened but still there. I'm just wondering if this is common for those with bad nasal allergies. Seems like since I've gotten into my 40's my body is just cr*apping out! LOL! And if you do have this problem, what helps resolve it?

Thanks in advance.

High levels of nasal congestion can affect hearing, as mucus can get into the ear canal, as well as inflammation. If you take decongestents for 2-3 days and don't have any improvement, you need to see the Dr.

A hot shower might help to clear up some of the mucus.

Hi,

I was just reading what you are going through with your ear- and wanted to ask a few questions.
Do you have intermittent ringing of that ear with fullness (pressure)?
Also- are you having periods of spinning type dizziness?

This will help me guide you

No, I don't have any fullness really. I can pop it if I yawn, but not real annoying fullness like with a bad head cold. No dizziness or veritigo. I've been taking some Claritan and it has cleared up almost completely. If I don't take a Claritan, I notice it comes back ever so slightly, but nothing like the first day. It was pretty irritating.

Thanks all for the replys!
