Pain Med for Headaches - Allergies Message Board

Is it okay to take hydrocodone for Severe Sinus Headaches. I get killer headaches, and the only thing that seems to help is (Lortab) hydrocodone

I ended up in the ER at Christmastime with a horrendous headache that was probably caused by sinus problems (I had surgery two months later). I was prescribed Hydrocodone then and also after the surgery, as it is one of the few painkillers that doesn't make me sick. It was okay for me, as far as my doctor was concerned, but I would definitely check with your doctor first.

P.S. I think the brand name for my hydrocodone is vicodin, not lortab. Just want to be sure we are talking about the same thing....OK, feel better...

Hey there, Thanks so much for writing!!

I found information on internet and this is what I found about the hydrocodone:
BRAND NAME(S):
Lorcet, Lortab, Norco, Vicodin

So, I guess its all the same?? I know my doctor has me on Lortab 10s and I get the generic and it is Hydrocodone on the bottle.

I am on the lortabs because I just had surgery, Complete hysterectomy and some of my colon removed. I am only 26 years old and I have been in a lot of pain. I had surgery 2 weeks ago and have been home for 1 week.

My headaches KILL me. I just know it is from allergies/sinus. But, when I get the headaches, I take my pain meds, and it helps, that is the only thing that helps. I know that they will not keep me on these forever.

One thing I did do......Today I went without smoking at all. I usually smoke a pack a day. It is so hard, but I did it and it is 11 PM and still smoke free. MY HEADACHE WAS NOT HALF AS BAD TODAY AS IT ALWAYS IS!!!!!

Maybe it was the smoking????????

I've heard that it can surely irritate the sinuses and cause major havoc. My doc just prescribed Vicodin for me for sinus headaches as well. 1 tab takes the edge off, 2 tabs really seem to kill it.
