Does anyone know what these numbers mean? - Allergies Message Board

I Have a few questions that I hope someone will have an answer to. I have had allergies/chronic sinus infections for years now... well, recently I had a cbc which showed a raised eosinophil count of 1400 and Ige test came back at 1937. My allergist (who I just started seeing and has put me on allergy shots 1 month ago) seems a little concerned. I have had shortness of breath for a couple of yrs. now but spirometry was normal.. the sob is all I have (a feeling of having to "catch" my breath) it's worse at times than other times and doesn't seem to make a difference whether I'm resting or exerting myself. I have no wheeze or cough.

1) Could this be asthma? doctor says no.. but I wonder if it's possible to have a mild case without cough or wheeze. 2) Does anyone have any knowledge of my Ige numbers and what they mean or the eosinophil? Doctor just says "we'll keep an eye on them".. sigh, wish they would elaborate more.

Sorry, I can't help you with the lab results. If you search the tests online, there are sites that explain them, and the normal values.

As far as you shortness of breath goes, I notice you said you have chronic sinusits. I went through a period of time where I was having SOB episodes. I truely thought I was having asthma attacks, but all tests were negative. My symptoms were constantly needing to catch my breath, and at other times I would get chest tighteness and even chest pain. I was even put on an inhaler at one point, but it didn't help any. My primary doctor thought I had anxiety.

My allergist diagnosed sino-bronchial syndrome. It is when sinus drainage drains into your chest and causes the bronchial tubes to constrict. A CT scan confirmed my sinus trouble, and after my sinus surgery, my SOB disapeared. Hope this helps.

Sneezydiva, Thank you so much.. you are the first person to say anything about my chronic sinusitis possibly being the culprit. It does help to hear what others have experienced.. that's why I like these forums so much. Again.. thank you for responding.
