New To Board Peanut Allergy

Hi i was just wondering if anyone has a peanut allergy? i am 35 just had an allergy test and discovered i had a big reaction on skin test to peanuts. I have eaten peanuts and peanut butter all my life and had satay with no problems that i can remeber especially anaphalaxis. Is there anyone out there that has this to? My GP says i must be carefull as one day i could have the big reaction ehn i do eat peanuts. I also tested positive to many other things mainly dust, grasses and weeds but hey i dont eat them.

Re: New To Board Peanut Allergy

I am the same way, ate them all my life, as a kid I eat a peanut butter sandwich everyday. But recently I tested slightly positive to peanuts. One doctor says not to worry, another says stop eating them. I don't know what to think.

Re: New To Board Peanut Allergy

Two years ago, I found out I had an allergy to certain tree nuts. I suddenly broke out in hives after a dessert I had. We looked at the label and it said, could contain trace amounts of almonds and walnuts. I went to an allergist and tested positive for tree nuts 2 at that time.

It hit hard to hear that because I'm visually impaired and reading lables is out for me for the most part. Anyway, we don't have anything with nuts or trace amounts in the house. I've had reactions with trace amounts and don't want to take a chance that I'll have that 4 alarm reaction one day. I keep 2 EpiPens with me now because my reaction time has gone from an hour to 20 minutes. I have not used one yet but I keep them just in case.

I love nuts and it was hard to give them up but I have a healthy respect for this allergy so, I play it safe. There is always the chance that it will happen because I eat out. I always ask if it's what is safe for me to eat and lately, we have noticed that menus in some places are putting that certain dishes could have nuts or trace amount of.

Food labeling is about to become more strict in Canada within the next year so, it will be easier for my husband (who reads the labels), to do so.

Re: New To Board Peanut Allergy

I'm not sure if I have allergies to peanuts or not...but whenever I eat peanuts or peanut butter, I get EXTREMELY tired ...could this be an allergy? Once I ate peanut soup and a little while later I started sweating and so tired, I could hardley drive home...has anyone else experience this?
