What's an IGE level - Allergies Message Board

I was diagnosed with bad allergies to mites and dust. And allergies to other things as well. The doc sent me for further blood testing though. So far an IGE test came back that was normal. What does that actually look at? None of my indiv. allergy tests came back yet. They were testing cats, ragweed, and molds. I'm just wondering what the IGE is.

IgE is a component of the immune system that is associated with allergies. If your allergies are really bad, the IgE will be higher. If the allergies are not so bad, the IgE will be lower. I believe this fluctuates with allergies, so if you are having a lot of symptoms, then it will be higher than on a day that you aren't having any symptoms.

Thank you, KeHorner. That makes sense then. I was on medicine for about 3 weeks prior to going for the test. So I guess that's why my numbers weren't high. The meds are working! Thankfully, most of my dizzy spells are over and my ears no longer hurt or pop!! I'm so glad I sent myself to a specialist rather than continuing to wait. It took me from Oct. to July to get a proper diagnosis. I was thinking the worst, allergies really never stuck for me. But then again I'm no doctor!!

what kind of meds did the dr put you on?

I was tested a couple of weeks ago via the skin ***** test and the results showed that i'm am severely allergic to all grass, dust mite, house dust, cats and dogs and mildly allergic to a few other things including brewers yeast.

I'm currently going through a process of desensitisation to dust mite and grasses.

I'm on Zyrtec, Zyrtec D, Singulair, and RhinoCort AQ. We're thinking of doing allergy shots later on. We'll see. My allergies were dust and dust mites also. Plus cats, dogs and a few trees and weeds.
