Question Benzonatate

Hi all, Yesterday I was prescribed several meds due to a sinus infection. One was supposed to be a decongestant. When I picked up my meds, there was no decongestant, but there was something called Benzonatate (Tessalon). I looked at the fact sheet and it said that it was a cough suppressant. I don't have a cough, so I called the dr. office but they told me yes, it's a cough suppressant but also a decongestant. I don't see that anywhere...anyone else been prescribed this for a decongestant?

Tessalon is a cough suppressant only. It prevents receptors in the respiratory system from creating a cough. I don't know of any evidence where it even works to thin fluid or mucous.

What other 2 drugs were you prescribed?

Re: Benzonatate

Thanks for the info...I figured they were giving me the runaround.
The other two were zyrtec, and zithromax. She also prescribed meclizine, but that's only for when the dizziness that I've been having causes nausea.
