Re: Bleach Allergy Help
Find a lawyer, preferably one who specializes in medical cases, and ask him/her for a free consultation. Many will give you 20 free minutes to hear you out and tell you if you have a case or not.
I don't think bleach is required in restraunts for cleaning, it's just cheap, and effective at cleaning...I think it's money that is the real deciding factor here. Other cleaners can be used, like iodine. Organic butcheries exist, and they are just as sanitary as places that use bleach, but they are required to use iodine for the "organic" label. My point is, there are other cleaner's out there the restraunt could use. Maybe you could convince your employer to use another cleaner, if you do your homework and give him/her information about alternatives.
The lawyer will let you know about any rights you might not know you have. Wrongfull termination (firing) from a job based on a medical condition may apply here, and they might hire you back just to avoid a potential lawsuit.
Then again, they might make up an excuse to get rid of you, just to avoid a wrongfull-death lawsuit from your family, should they allow you to work on the premesis in the presence of bleach.
But ask yourself, do you want to go back? If they don't change cleaners at the restraunt, I'd advise you to go someplace where they don't use bleach, or require you to be close to it.
