Red face Does anyone else go through this??

Hi

I suffer from Chronic Sinusitis, Allergic Rhinitis and have a deviated septum (left side). I take a long walk each morning so I am exposed to pollen and I have lots of animals which I frequently bring into my house. I am a 42 year old male and the allregies run in my family. I take Singulair and it seems to work (some). Anyway, there's a bit of history.

Now, I go through these "cycles" many times each year where my allergies will really start to act up. I'll get the post nasal drip/runny nose, clogged up nose, presure behind the eyes, puffyness, watery eyes, etc. Then, I'll wake up the following day with a puffy face/eyes, a bit of a headache (sometimes) and some congestion from where the "snot" has dripped down into my lungs during the night.

After a few nights of this, I'll start hacking up thickened, green-ish clumps of mucous and I'll feel kind of "flu-ish" and achey and yet my temp is always either normal or even below-normal.

Does anyone else here go through this??

- Thank's a bunch for any input on this! - LT

Re: Does anyone else go through this??

I am 48 and have had allergies all of my life, particularly sinus drainage, congestion, etc. I was diagnosed at age 44 with asthma.. I don't have typical asthma symptoms, just a vague shortness of breath sometimes with exertion. But during allergy season it is worse; I do sneeze a lot also. I have animals ( 3 dogs) that I am in love with, so I will not get rid of them. One of them even sleeps with me and my husband (which I know is a big NO NO). However, along with the prescriptions meds, which I think produce miminal results, I use a sinus rinse each night, take a lot of vitamin C, and use a mask when I work in the yard. The sinus rinse does wonders. Go to your local health food store and you can ask about them. You can use them several times a day if needed. The asthma bothers me. I hate the fact I have to take inhaled steroids every day. But the fact is, my lung function test showed narrowing of my small airways and I am afraid not to take it.

My best advice to you is: eat well with plenty of veggies and fruit, cut down on dairy, sugar and fast food. Take lots of vitamin C (it is a natural antihistamine) and try your best to stay away from things you know bother you.

Good luck!
Cindy

Re: Does anyone else go through this??

I go through this also. Its been pretty bad now for about 6 months. I have asthma, allergies, and a deviated septum. The only that seems to help me is a nasal decongestor. The problem with that though is that it makes me feel high, anxious, nervous & drowsy. Id rather have that then be sick all the time. I think most of my problems come from the deviated septum. I have an appt coming up with my ENT, and I am going to push for him to take a closer look at the deviated septum, and try & fix that.

Re: Does anyone else go through this??

Really green mucus along with feeling flu like symptoms is in my opinion is an infection. I never get fevers with sinus infections. When I am feeling well, my temperature is rather low, about 97 ish. You might have mild chronic sinus where the symptoms come and go. I had this too, and always thought it was allergies. But once properly diagnosed, I had surgery, and I don't have constant infections. When you are accustomed to allergy misery, it is sometimes hard to tell when you have a cold or infection versus allergy.
