I hope someone could help me. My husband has just started allergy shots. The problem he has been having is every morning he says he has a feeling of mucus draining down his throat, he has to cough and gag every morning to clear his throat. The doctor did an allergy test which showed allergy to trees and mold. Does anyone have similar experience, do these symptoms sound like allergies? Is it possible a medication like Allegra could solve his problem instead of having to take the allergy shots? Also if anyone has any idea how much these allergy shots will cost I would appreciate any input? He will be getting 2 shots once a week. Thank you in advance for your help
with insurance the shots shouldn't be to expensive. for me it would be something like 180 a year but that was when i had insurance. there is no reason he couldn't take shots and allegra at the same time. the shots will give him long term relief, like 10 years or more, while allegra might give you 12 hours relief.
i took the shots for about six months, the higher the dosage got the worst i felt almost like i had the flu.i quit them and started nasal flushes,it was my cure.seems like the body would gain immunity without shots by being exposed on a daily basis to what your allergic to.i know very few people who have had the test that was not allergic to something.most give skin test the ones on your back and look for a reaction from the reaction site, kinda odd that we inhale our allergins and that makes us sick.
There is no reason he can't take Allegra while getting the shots. But if he is highly allergic, he should get the shots to get maximum relief. Take it from me, after awhile, the medicines will stop working and shots will be the only plade to go.
Sorry I can't help with costs, as mine are covered by insurance. But I think most offices charge about $20 a shot.
I agree...do the shots. The meds quit working after a while and you have to move around on them. THe shots shold give long term relief. And yes, his symptoms are allergies.
I have been getting allergy shots now for a little over a year. I go now once a month. I get three shots. My insurance covers it so I only pay a $15 copay. My allergist charges my insurance company $50, so on average allergy shots can run anywhere from $50-$75 a week at first until the once a month kicks in. The usual run is once a week for 16 weeks then you go to 2 weeks and then once a month.
I had to take Allegra for a while when my indoor allergies starting last fall.
