Ladies, have oral contraceptives worsened your allergies? - Allergies Message Board

I know I've complained about having allergy probs my whole life BUT, for some reason I cannot remember my allergies EVER being as bad as they have been since I started ortho- tri cyclen. I've been on them for two years. I did a quick search to find out OC's can worsen already exisiting conditions..unless I have an allergy to estrogen or progest....

However, if this is true about the pill then during the 4th week would your allergies just go back to normal or would they be just as crazy since it is your period week?

I have not noticed a change in allergies since I have been on BC (first the patch and now the ring) although I have possibly noticed an increase in my asthma. it is possible perhaps that it has lowered your immue system which coul d make it seem like your allergies are worse. might not be totally absurd and may be worth talking to the manufacturer or your doc.

My ENT's nurse practitioner told me BCP can make nasal/sinus congestion worse. It has to do with the increase in estrogen in your body. Many pregnant women go through the same thing. I'm too concerned about getting pregnant to go off of them though.

did she say how long it would take after being off of them for the congestion to subside? im thinking 3 months b/c that's what they ALWAYS tell you when u start bcps, to get used to the new hormonal changes. Well, Im supposed to start a new pack sunday, so maybe I will skip it and see.
