Mold and Allergies - Allergies Message Board

5 years ago, I moved into an apartment that had a roof leak. They layed new carpet in before I moved in, didn't paint although promised to. Anyway, saw brown patches on ceiling and walls. Friend of mine did some plaster work after scraping off the mold. The problem is here, I believe it is beyond the wall. Then they had a flood while I was living here in the back sun room, putting on a new roof, they forgot to put the guard on so it rained so hard, it came down and flooded my back room. Then I began to come down with such a horrible cough. Now I had Asthma when I was a kid, but had not had a problem with until this mold thing. I stayed like this for a while. Then it subsided, but then I came down with horrible sinus, thought we got the mold out but it's in the woodwork. Then it began all over again. Now I am moving in 2 days, thank God! Wish I knew how dangerous it was to my health a long time ago before I figured out it wasn't gone at all. Cleaned out that room a few days ago and became so lethargic, coughing horrible, nose, green stuff coming out, eyes itched, skin itched, wheezing, left side of my throat is sore. I slept for two days at least 12 or more hours. Today I am feeling a bit better, but still get fatigue during the day or early evening. I know some of it is the packing etc. but the other part is the mold. I just want to know if anyone else has had similar situation and, being that I've lived here for 5 years, will I have health problems now that will never go away?

I wish I could tell you if this is going to cause long term effects but I really can't. I suggest you find a good alergist. I also have a severe mold allergy with my asthma etc. I have always been allergic to mold but a few years back we had a deadly mold in my office where the EPA had to come in and quarentine. I cannot prove it but I would be willing to bet my mold allergy has been worse since the outbreak in the office. I too get really tired, lungs weezy etc. After this exposure you may find you are ultra sensitive now. I think it's a good idea that you are moving. If you would have known it was going to affect you that badly you probably would have been out a long time ago or had the mold tested so that you could know what you were dealing with or even get some legal help on it.

Amanda, do you or anyone else on this board know if molds affects the nervous system, such as jitters etc.?

For what it's worth, I've experienced strange trembling in my jaw and brain fog since I developed allergies four years ago. I've seen a neurologist and he has no idea what's causing it. I'm betting it's due to mold/other allergies.
