chemical sensitivites - Allergies Message Board

I have allergies to environmental stuff like dust, pollen, molds, cats, dogs, birds.

I also have sensitivities to cigarette smoke, cooking smoke, and perfumes.

My allergies are pretty well under control, as much as possible anyway. I get allergy shots for the dust/pollen/molds.

However, my sensitivity to the smoke/perfumes is very high and not under control. It limits me very much about where I can go, like restaurants and coffee shops and concerts.

My allergist says that it is not uncommon for people with allergies to have general sensitivity to other chemicals, but he has no treatment for it. There's no "cigarette smoke" shot (at least for the case that smoke is a simple irritant rather than an allergen).

I use Flonase, and also I bring saline spray with me wherever I go and keep dousing my nnasal passages with it. It's not great but it's the best I can do.

Anyone else experience sensitivities like this?

Not quite to the same degree, but yes I do have trouble with smoke and perfume. I find the better control I have over my allergies, the more I can tolerate it. When I went to Europe, had literally had zero allergies, and our tour visited a perfume factory. I was dreading it, but suprisingly I was absolutely fine! and I attribute to the fact I wasn't being exposed to any other allergens in Europe. Yet, I still need to avoid the perfume counter here at home.

The furthur along in my shots I get, the more I can tolerate, hopefully someday, it won't be as much of an issue.

I think you should try an alternative care Doctor that may help you more than an allergist.

My wife use to be extreme allergic to all the things that you mentioned and took shots for several years.

We decided to see a Homeopath and 1 treatment cured most all her allergies!!

I'm thinking about how you had no allergies in Europe. I guess that's because it is all different plants and pollens and such?

One way to deal systemically w/MCS is to look at your body's endocrine functions, esp. the adrenal & thyroid function.

Many naturopathic docs can help you ck this out. If your adrenals are underpar, you will suffer from allergies & MCS more than is necessary.

You can also explore total toxic loads with a holistic doc. Our bodies were designed to handle so much, but our air, water & food are pushing many over the edge.
