Chronic body itching/urticaria/hives

i've had almost daily body itching for the last 3 years. especiall at night and in the morning on my feet and hands. sometimes i will have red blotches like hives that disappear rather quickly and other times i will just itch all over my body in different places with no rash!! anyone else have this problem? i find that if i take claritan every 3 days or so it controls the body itching pretty well!

Re: Chronic body itching/urticaria/hives

Hi there, you are not alone. I have always had body itching, especially after my morning shower. I now have chronic hives every day for the last nine months, I take reactine every day to control them. I really don't know where the itching and hives come from. People will say it's something that we are eating, some say it's in the air, in my case I think hormones and anxiety. Have you seen a doctor?

Re: Chronic body itching/urticaria/hives

Allergy testing can be helpful in tracing the source of what's causing the hives, then you can avoid it. But it doesn't always find the cause.

Thyroid antibodies are frequently found in individuals w/chronic urticaria, but are infrequently tested for. The test is not the standard "TSH screen," it is a panel of 3 diff thyroid antibody blood tests. Some T antibodies decrease w/thyroid meds.

Some people have found relief from chronic urticaria by taking extra B12 (sublingual methylcobalamin).

Best wishes.

Re: Chronic body itching/urticaria/hives

I too have had hives for the past 4 months. I am not sure if you have had any sort of patch test done recently or not; however, after a patch test I had discovered I was allergic to a chemical that is in pesticides(carba mix). The same pesticides that are sprayed inside/outside of homes for bugs. I live in a condo where I share a main wall with my neighbor, who had their place sprayed for pesticides 4 months ago. The chemical has been in the air ever since which is causing me to have the hives for months on end. Just an idea, but you may want to look into it.
