confused about food allergies

i found out my main culprits are whey, casin, egg, and seseame. However, all of my internet info is saying that these food allergies mainly cause gastrointestinal problems. However, my probs are nasal stuffiess, sneezing etc, so will eliminating these foods even help my respitory symptoms?

also, how long should it take till i see some relief?

and all of my reactions from the elisa test were IGA related, does that make a diff?

Re: confused about food allergies

We are beginning to realize that my daughter's sniffles and nasal problems are probably all from her food allergies. She has all of your same food allergies that you do. I know an adult who is beginning to develop food allergies and after she consumes milk, she can feel the congestion starting in her nose. I've also had an ENT tell me that milk can cause nasal congestion. I would think that you would get relief once you stop consuming all of the allergens (watch for hidden ones). With the IgG, regular doctors don't believe it but alternative doctors do. My daughter had an analphylactic reaction to peanut butter. She tested IgE negative to peanuts at the allergist but IgG positive with the blood test at the alternative doctor. The allergist told me to go ahead and feed her peanuts. He must have thought that I imagined her reaction! Later the alternative doctor injected the food allergens in her arm (which regular doctors don't do) and most of the foods, but a few (didn't inject the peanuts!), caused swelling at the site, thus, allergy. These were all of her IgG positive but IgE negative foods. I hate it when doctors don't understand something so, therefore, it doesn't exist. What an ego! They must think that they are God!

Re: confused about food allergies

Thank you, and how is your daughter's health since she has eliminated all of her triggers? I would think after 2 weeks I would feel relief, maybe sooner, but the ragweed is sooo high in maryland right now. I can't tell if I am stuffy and sneezy from that or from the delayed food reactions from the past week.

One thing strange is that i am more allergic to whey than milk. My Iga was very high for why and moderate for milk. Since 2 days ago I used to drink 40g of whey in my protein shake everyday after a workout, what a scary thought.

Re: confused about food allergies

Well, my daughter had leaky gut syndrome which eventually made her allergic to almost all food, so we are feeding her the least allergic food and we were rotating each food every four days to keep the allergens lower. Plus being on Zyrtec decreased her reactions. She, however, received her first food allergy shot over a month ago (LDA, low dose allergen) and she is doing better. Her sniffles are gone and she is not on any allergy medicine! This is why we believe now that most of her nasal problems were due to the food allergens. Maybe the whey is more concentrated with milk proteins? You write that your test was IgA. My daughters blood test was for IgE and IgG. The E being immediate and the G being delayed reactions. What made you think that you needed to be tested for food allergies? What were your symptoms?

Re: confused about food allergies

wow, i never thought they could give food allergy injections. that is wonderful news that she is not on her meds!

anyway my test measured both IgA and IgE but all of my reactions were delayed IgA reactions only. So I may never have been able to figure them out since my natureopathic doc said a reaction can take place anywhere from 2 hrs to a couple days. However, every morning i would feel soooo stuffy and clogged with thick mucus in my nose and throat. Everyday I looked as if i had a cold up until 5-6 hrs after waking. I also have been retested for allergy shots and have been on them since age 8, now 23. I also take allegra d.

So if milk is truly the culprit, I drank approx 3 cups everyday in addition to the 40g whey in my shake along with granola bars and cereal containing milk. That is a lot of damage. Eggs were very high IgA reations, and i ate approx 8 egg whites a day, whew

I dont know if eliminating these foods will improve my stuffiness (since allergic reactions to food can be anything from sneezing to fatigue) but it has to do some good for my body. I also tend to get a few bad breakouts, so there is a chance it could improve my skin

Keep us posted about ur daughter
