itchy throat, roof of mouth, please advice

I suffer terrible problems at night time with this itching throat and mouth. Is this allergy?
I presume it is. What do I do?
Thanks

It sounds like it definitely could be allergies. Have you tried taking an antihistamine before bed to see if that helps? Your doctor can recommend one, or there are several over-the-counter ones to try.

Re: itchy throat, roof of mouth, please advice

IT could be an allergy, but if it only happening when you lay down at night I would look into acid reflux. Oral itching is the sign of an oral allergy. It is often accompanied by mouth ulcers and blisters, heavy drainage, stomach aches, gas, nausea/vomiting, and possibly anaphalxis. If you just have the oral itching it is most likely a reflux issue, but you can take benedryl or claritin as a test. If the symptoms go away.. it was an allergic response.

Sincerely,
MG

Thank you, very interesting because I do have digestive problems at night time also. I was diagnosed some years ago with Hiateus Hernia ( hopefully spelt right) and I think this causes me problems at night, so perhaps there is some connection.

Thank you also, will try anti-histamines and see if this makes a difference.
Have used them before for hay fever and have felt a bit groggy next.

Re: itchy throat, roof of mouth, please advice

Try Claritin-D it is a non-drowsy fairly new prescription to OTC conversion drug. Many people do well on it with out side effects. Also there are strong ties between allergies and PND (post nasal drip) Aggravating GERD and LPR. As to your hiatal hernia.. my husband had one and only an outpatient surgery with a GI instrument the MD had named "Big Bertha" solved his problem.

Best of luck with your experimental trials.
Sincerely,
MG

Hi, will have a look for Clariton-D. Not sure what PND is but will check now on internet and see what I find. Also not sure what a GI instrument is. I am British and living in Spain, I suppose things are a little different. Thanks for your interest and advice Salle.

Re: itchy throat, roof of mouth, please advice

PND - post nasal drip.. mucus drainage down the back of the throat from your sinuses.
GI - gastrointestinal

Big Bertha was the flexible tube that was rammed down your esphogas many times with increasing larger washers placed on the end. It was used as an outpatient procedure to slowly stretch out the ring structure lower that was reffered to as a hiatal hernia and was preventing my husband from swalling anything but fluids with out choking.

If you can not find Claritin-D ask for an non-drowsy anti-hisamine decongestant combination. You should however be able to order Claritin on line if all else fails.

Sincerely,
MG

Sounds like an allergry. Yes, I would try the antihistamine to rule out any other problem. If you have hayfever, then it sounds likely this is an allergy. Claritin-D has a decongestant (from what I remember), I wouldn't take it unless I really needed the extra drug. I take Chlor-Trimeton it doesn't make me sleepy. Just another one you can look for in Spain. Do you have to go to the apothecary? Does Corte Ingles sell drugs? (I can't remember.)

Hi ,you have been to Spain then, I don't know whether Corte Ingles sells medication, It sells everything else though. I go to the Farmacia. here
I am going back to the U.K Sunday because of this new Cornea Ulcer and hopefully should see my specialist Monday. However this also gives me the opportunity to find allergy medication, it is a bit of a problem the lanquage barrier.
Thank you again for your advice, as my eye is worsening, I find the computer a problem, so will probaly spend less time on it, until it eases a bit

Re: itchy throat, roof of mouth, please advice

Hope things are getting better for you. I just saw your reply. I have RCE for almost a year now after a corneal abrasion. I'm finding that when my hayfever acts up, the site of my injury gets irritated. I've been taking the antihistamines and my eye feels much better when I'm on them. Just wanted to let you know I'm going to Spain soon, maybe I'll scout out some antihistamines and write back!
