Throat Constriction

I have had chronic 24 hour throat constriction for the last 5 years now. It is undiagnosed. I have not only had allergy testing but have been tested for gerd, lpr, etc. The constriction has now spread to my sinuses and I have a dry cough. Could someone please give me direction or tell me how I can type in my symptoms on healthboards to get on the most fitting board that matches my symptom? Thank you.

Re: Throat Constriction

Does this constriction make it hard to take a deep breath/breathe?

What you are describing sounds like acid reflux disease.
What tests did they do for GERD/LPR? Have you had an endoscopy?
Do you get heartburn? A lot of people will not have heartburn but still have reflux.
Sometimes throat spasms can cause this and I have been having intermittent throat problems for a while. I tend to clench my teeth at night (and during the day) because of severe chronic sinusitis which may be the cause.

Re: Throat Constriction

I have had all of the tests for LPR because I was so sure after studying healthboards that I had it. But they all came back negative. I have wondered at times if they could still be wrong as my symptoms match LPR so well. Another symptom that I have is if I eat late at night, in the morning when I wake up I have sort of a pain in my mid chest that is relieved by a deep breath. I thought this might be a hiatal hernia. But again all tests say no. One other strange symptom I have and I don't know if it is even related, but occasionally I will have chest pain that will hurt for awhile especially more so when I move or sometimes take a deep breath. But then it seems to "heal" slowly over a few day period.

Re: Throat Constriction

I'm not totally sure that I understand it when you say"throat constriction". Do you mean that it feels like something is stuck in your throat? I ask this because I have occasionally felt as if something was stuck until I actually had food stuck and water or nothing would not go down. I also experienced chest pain(down the center) that lasted for months-turned out to be an ulcer in my esophagus! The ulcer caused the problems with my thoat. One of the other posters asked if you had endoscopy. That is how I found out about the ulcer which kept my chest hurting.

Re: Throat Constriction

This may sound like a long shot, but it really helped me. I was also told I did not have a hiatal hernia and had the symptoms you described. I went to a chiropracter who manually adjusted the hiatal hernia (he said I did in fact have one). This helped A LOT. It may not work for you, but at some point we all get desperate after not finding an answer in the traditional medical community. If you decide to try this, call around until you find one with experience adjusting hiatal hernias. Good luck!

Yes, I did have an endoscopy. It does not feel like food is stuck in my throat though occassionally I have had this problem. It is more like swollen inside and makes it more difficult for air to get through.

Re: Throat Constriction

The last post was in answer to alleet. This one is for skylar. Wonderful advice! We are going on vacation next week but when I get back I think I'll look into this and see if there is one in our area who will do this. I have a friend who lives 100's of miles away that told me about someone in here area that manipulated to get a hiatal hernia in place. I just thought that this was a rare doctor. Anyway, thank you!
