Allergy Shot reactions - Allergies Message Board

I began my second round of allergy shots this morning. It has been almost 6 years since I finished my last course. I was pleased that I didn't get too much redness and no real swelling with these first shots because in the past I usually had more severe reactions. I am assuming this is because the dosage was so low since I am just starting them up. Tonight though, I have noticed that my muscles near the injection site are sore and hard, kind of like they have really tightened up. I don't remember having this type of reaction at all my last go round. Have any of you ever experienced this type reaction before?

Sure...could be several things - the injection itself, you flinched when you got the shot, the nurse didn't do it well. I wouldn't worry about it.

Are you taking an antihistamine the morning of your shots? That will help with any reaction.

I have that reaction every single time. All I can do is take another Zyrtec, rub some Benadryl cream on it and suffer. It's usually better by the next day (sometimes two).

Most of the time I would get a knot because the injection was not placed properly. There was only one good nurse that could find that perfect spot to avoid the knot in my allergy clinic.

I used to get shots(3 in each arm, 2x week). Everytime I would experience really bad swelling at the injection location. It would be about the size of a silver dollar and really red. It really does help it to go away faster if you take an antihistamine. I took benadryl in addition to Allegra. You might want to ask your dr if you can take 2 antihistamines though.
