I had my 6th week of allergy shots Thursday and on Friday morning my left arm at the injection site was red and hot, i felt tired and sick to my stomach. I called my allergist and she has ordered blood work to check my antibodies. By friday night i went to the ER my arm was swollen and hard. They gave me a steroid shot and and sent me home with steroids. I have a constant headache. Is this normal reactions for allergy shots? What are they looking for when they check antibodies in the blood?

This does happen sometimes after allergy shots. Most likely, they have advanced your dose more quickly than you can tolerate. Be sure to remind them before your next shot that you had a reaction this time!
Getting a red lump like that is not unusual...so don't think it is. It's rare that you won;t get any reaction. And they just may need to dilute your serum. In the beginning sometimes it's trail and error. I've done them 3 times so I kinda know the drill. And try to stay away from the steroids - especially the shots. It can really send your blood pressure up and cause those headaches. I know it can be an easy fix but it messes me up so I try to stay away from it. Good luck!
