REgular Claritin didnt help much now what? - Allergies Message Board

I currently have a cold or allergies and Im sneezing with the runny nose. I took the 24 hour regular Claritin but yet hours later I am still sneezing w/runny nose (not as bad as before I took it but the problem is still there somewhat). Am I allowed to take anything else in addition to this?

If you have a cold Claritin's not going to help much (it's a non-sedating, non-drying antihistamine so by definition doesn't dry you up as much as older antihistamines do). You can try taking a Benadryl - it's a short acting 1st generation anthistamine that may dry up your nose better but it will make you drowsy (its primary ingredient is the same thing that goes into Tylenol PM to make you sleepy).

thanks. Ok that makes sense. I usually take Benedryl at night to sleep and did think about taking it but again didnt want to be sleepy. I guess if its that bad tomorrow i will consider taking the Benedryl during the day.

If it's a cold, I suggest Alka Seltzer Plus for Colds...it works great for me!
