Typically, antacids are ineffective against acid reflux. You would need to take what are called Proton Pump Inhibitors (Nexium or Prilosec) for several weeks to really see any benefit. Prilosec is now available over-the-counter (but at a lower dose that when it was a prescription).
The connnection between acid reflux and post-nasal drip/sinus issues seems to be something relatively newly understood, but both my allergist and pulmonologist have told me that it's a contributing factor to a large number of the cases they see.
