non-antihistamine allergy Drug - Allergies Message Board

I am a 74 year old male with BHP and should avoid antihistamines. Any suggestions for the above is appreciated.

If you mean you have High Blood Pressure (HBP), it isn't antihistamines you should avoid. It's decongestants. There is a difference. Lots of antihistamines are out there without decongestants - Zyrtec, Claritin, Benedryl, Allegra, etc. As long as it doesn't have -D after the name, you should be OK. Avoid the Sudafed series too.

BPH is enlarged prostate and not high blood pressure. Thanks for your input.

Sorry. In that case, I would suggest allergy injections to desensitize you to the allergens. The shots have no antihistamines or decongestants. THey are low doses of the actual allergen.

The other thing you might try is Singulair - it can help with allergies by stopping part of the allergic reaction but is not an antihistamine (It's available only by prescription and I know that some insurance companies won't cover it for allergies because it it so much more expensive than many antihistamines). It works differently but might be an option for you.
