Red rash - Allergies Message Board

Hi there,

Over the past week i have been developing a red rash (looks like heat rash) on my arms and neck. This only happens when i go out into daylight or especially direct sunlight. This doesn't appear anywhere but on my arms and neck and ive never had it before...

Would anyone be able to shed some light on this at all? its not sun burn, it occurs literally after 5 mins after being outside and its really beginning to annoy me greatly.
I have tried putting SPF 30 on my skin before i go out and this doesn't have any effect. It does however help the condition when i put cool water on the rash, it seems to die down a little bit and not irritate me so much. It is very itchy and feel a slight burning. I do have fair skin.

It is concerning since i am going away to Florida in 4 weeks and i really hope im not allergic to the sun or anything.

Any thoughts on what its likely to be ? Maybe it is just heat rash i don't know but it dies down after a few hours of not being in sunlight.

It sounds like you are allergic to the suntan lotion. That would be my guess. Very rarely is someone allergic to the sun itself. Have you tried being just a few minutes in the sun without lotion on? Perhaps a trip to the allergist would help you figure this out. Good luck!
