I've had chronic itching and urticaria since the beginning of February. FOr a few weeks, I had a reprieve, but now it's back again. I do drink a lot of diet soft drinks. Is it possible that the aspartame in these drinks is an allergen for me. I did stop them for awhile and also stopped my lisinopril ( 2 variables) plus began taking on a regular basis zyrtec at night and claritin during the day which seemed to help with the out breaks and itching. However, I also discovered the the claritin was giving me pretty nasty headaches so stopped it about 2 weeks ago. I also began sneaking some diet sodas in... I know, too many variables.

I'm just wondering if any one else has has any negative experience with aspartame?

I didn't know it was contributing to several problems for me (not feeling well, feeling "yucky", stuffy, tired, unfocused) but the corn syrup in regular drinks, and the sodium benzoate they used to have in soft drinks were later identified as allergens for me, through a delayed lymphocyte allergy tes.

What a difference when I avoided things they identified.

I think all soft drinks now use potassium benzoate, due to a problem with the ascorbic acid, heat and sodium benzoate being a potential carcinogen (!?), but maybe the potassium benzoate is the culprit for you, if not aspartame ... I have heard a lot about asparatame not being good for us.

Aspartame is horrific! In my opinion it is straight poisen. Studies have been done on that. It is not healthy trust me. I come down with a migrane headache with just one sip of it. I will never use it in coffee or never drink diet drinks. Yes, you can be extremely allergic to it, and it is not natural at all. Just do a little research and you will find out why you felt bad. Aspartame gives me migraines! Stay away from the stuff; it's awful for you!

I agree aspartame is pretty awful. I get a migraine from just a few sips.
