Vasamotor rhinitis/anxiety - Allergies Message Board

Even though not diagnosed by a doctor, i swear i have this. My nose not only reacts to dust, but change of temperature. I walked into a shop today and after a minute or two bang, my lightheadedness starts, making me panic as i think im going to feint, and have to go out the shop. This retched nose problem has a lot to answer for as ive developed anxiety about going into shops and places, and am that bad i have been put on beta blockers for anxiety. Anyone else have/had similar?

I have something like you and has changed my life for the worse. My employment is threatened, my family life effected, my sleep is in tatters.I like you have been put on bets blockers to try and keep me calm.This is not working very well at all, I was on night shift 2nt but HSE comming to my work to see if anything there has caused it. This is the most difficult thing I have ever had to deal with and I am struggling.ENT has put me back on flixonse nasal spray but little effect . hope things improve for you, give me more details of your condition. I have the swollen tissue and this blocks airway, and puts me in panic stage.No family history so right out of blue, never spent a summer like this before, and i am 42.I wake after 2/3 hours and can not sleep , this has continued from june this year.hope to get more of your story.

hiya. Well where shall i begin?June time. Ive had allergic rhinitis for years which ive controlled as its only come in stages. June, one sunday morning i get this whopper of a headache. Thought my brain was trying to burst out my skull. Knocked me sick but carried on with paracetomol. It rolled on and on and on, blocked ears,totally congested head and pressure, eye pressure, cough. Knocked the confidence right out of me, didnt want to drive incase my head would 'spin', maybe through the heat in the car? i dont know.Didnt want to go into shops, restraunts etc in case i got an attack of vertigo. This all lead to proper anxiety. Panic attacks when driving, going into shops, even walking up the road, i felt weak in the joints and body. oh no, phobias coming on. Id sit there and think i cant to this or that because of my sinuses. it all caught up with me in the end, one panic attack too far when i woke up one saturday morning 3 weeks ago thinking i couldnt breath - after a huge cough it had gone -the thick phlem got trapped down my throat. Doc put me on proponolol 40mg for anxiety, actually went to him for a check up today he says he wants me on them for 6 months! Im trying slowly to rebuild my confidence with short driving trips and walking into little shops not the big asdas or anything. My 6 year old and my partner have missed out on holiday because of me and that adds to the stress. Its a vile thing, im fighting the sinus and anxiety problem. Still got the blasted sinus pressure though and am currently on flixonase which like beconase, sudafed, anti biotics just hasnt worked. You say you have swollen tissue, is that in your sinus? My doc just doesnt seem to want to know about the sinus trouble as hes given me everything for it. You are one step ahead of me though - your in work, im not and cant see me going back for months. Is it something in the air?
