Allergies? When will I get better

I've been suffering from really bad allergies for a year and a half. I have year-round ones: Fungi, trees, pollen, and dust mites.

At work, from the moment I enter the building I feel horrible. Runny nose, congestion ,red red, itchy eyes, and snezzing. It got so bad that I ended up getting chronic sinusitis and bad breath as a result from the PND. Well I am now taking an antihistamine, nasal steriod and doing daily nasal rinsing to help my symptoms. I am also using antihistamine eye drops as well-they help a little but my eyes are still red and itchy all the time. When I leave here I am better but I still experience symtpoms other places as well. Its beeen only one full week but when wil lthe bad breath and runny nose go away. The congestion is so much better and I no longer experience the sore throat or the congestion--happy days. But the bad breath from the PNd persists. Also the itchy watery eyes. I leave this office for lunch everyday and I immediatly feel 100% better but when I return it all starts up again. It not just the office though. I know I can't expect to be better in a week but I'd love a realistic time frame. I thought one month for my body to reverse the damage of not taking anything for my allergies.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Re: Allergies? When will I get better

hi legaleagle.. didn't you have some success with taking large dose of decongestant? I think it was you...

is your job in a old building? wonder if a air purifier would help in your area? have you tried allergy shots?

Re: Allergies? When will I get better

It sounds like your allergies are less of an issue than the building where you work. It's very unusual for someone to feel 100% better when you leave the building (and if it's typical allergies you should probably feel worse outside and better when you're inside in the air conditioning), and to have the symptoms start up when you return to the building.

Antihistamines start to treat allergy symptoms within an hour of taking them and after a day or two they reach their full effect (as long as you keep taking them every day), so they're probably not going to help much more than they have already.

It actually sounds like there's something in the building that is causing your symptoms - it could be mold or some other contaminant in the building, but if that is what's casing the problem you're going to have to figure out how to minimize your exposure.

Re: Allergies? When will I get better

No GC i have the same thing. When im in the house or when i was at work, my head would congest to the full. I actually feel better outside. I thought the air conditioning or heating would make allergies worse? they certainly do me. By the way, still got them from june, its now mid september. Just hoping it goes soon.

Re: Allergies? When will I get better

Most allergy sufferers feel much better inside in the air conditioning/heating than outside UNLESS they're exposed to something inside that they're allergic to (like a cat or mold). Both air conditioning and heating filter the air and remove at least some allergens from it.

On the list of things you're allergic to only dust mites and some fungi would typically be present in any significant quantity inside, but fungi are also usually in the air outside in much larger quantities.

It sounds like there some kind of indoor allergen that you're being exposed to (but the antihistamines should be helping with that) or you've got some kind of non-allergic rhinitis.
