Intense itching all over body!

Hello All,

I'm basically at my wits end, so I am going to be as detailed as possible about this itchiness because I don't know what is related or not.

It began early April. I had a very bad yeast infection. I treated it with Monistat 3 and it seemed to go away. Two days later, it was back. I went and saw an OBGYN and she gave me Diflucan. The symptoms cleared up and then occurred again a week later. Again, I went on Diflucan and again it cleared up and came back. My third dose of Diflucan was split up into three doses separated by a few days each. It was after the first pill in this series that I began to itch. It began on my thighs, but quickly went EVERYWHERE! I called my primary physician and he prescribed me terazole cream. The yeast infection went away, the itching all over did not.

I stopped taking all medications at this point besides my birth control pills. By June, I was still itching so I made an appointment with my doctor. He did all sorts of blood test (LFT, CBC, ect.). All these came back negative so I got an allergy test. My food allergies came back negative, but I had all sorts of respiratory allergies (hayfever, ragweed, trees, dogs, dust, ect.). I was sent to an allergist who said I have dermatographism and he prescribed me Allegra (180mg once daily). The Allegra had no effect on my itching. Neither did claritin, benadryl, or atarax. However, he bumped up my Allegra to two pills a day and atarax every 4-6 hours as needed. It has been a few weeks now and still there are no changes!!!

I read that itching skin could be a symptom of a systemic yeast infection (I have had another mild one since the first was finally cleared up), but I am not sure. My doctor claims it is allergy related. HELP ME!!! I was going to do the yeast free diet, but I had nothing to eat and it was so hard! I am so sick of itching, so I am looking forward to what you all have to say.

ANother point, I have no rashes, dry skin, or anything. Sometimes I do notice very small raised flesh colored bumps together near where I begin to itch, but not always.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Re: Intense itching all over body!

Oh I am so sorry.Did you actually see a dematologist?I know you said you saw an allergist.Cut out sugar from your dietbread and crackers and yeasty foods.Any kind of simple carbohydrate will turn into sugar in your body as far as I know.Garlic is of grat wonders.Sliced raw garlic on butter bread is a good way to get rrid of parasitic infectios.i actually grew garlic this year ad quite a bit of it.i have been thrwing it into everything. There are many good books on candidas and food allergies.research intensley.Have you been checked for odd coditions like lymphomas,Hodgkins and some blood conditions.I am sure that tiredness, paleness and other symptoms would go along with those, and I heard that the feet will itch intenesely, especially in the evening.can you have developed a allergy to your birth control pill? Are your birth control pills colored any??Pink-blue,green?anything like that.Sometimes our pills come from different drug companies even though they are the same prescription.see,I get generic drugs. My insuranse will not payfor brand name drugs unless it has no generic. So basically i get all generic. The genric drugs come from different companies.Sometimes you can go for months getting pills from the same drug maker, then out of no where it will change and come from a differet manufacturer. It will say who they come from on small print on the bottle. My point here is that they might be putting different fillers, dyes, ect in the meds. Also, have you changed any of your laundry detergents. If you have a boyfriend has he changed detergents, soaps, any products??Either of you??Itching doesnt sound like a big health problem but it is AWFUL to the person it is happening to.I had a friend about 4 years ago she had something similar.her entire body itched immensely. It started out slow, and then progressed over a peripod of weeks to horrid.Doctors ever found out the cause. We think it was stress related. Some sort of anxiety in a asense. Her doctors gave her this liquid medicine that began with an H.Dont remember exactly. It came in a bottle like cough syrup and was clear. It made her tired and she slept vwry well.it also cleared up the itching within a few days.I would see another specialist.itching will drive you absolutely nutts!I feel for you and hope so much you get better.

Re: Intense itching all over body!

Have you been checked for a latex allergy? Latex is everywhere. For the longest time I had unidentified skin rashes, some were even biopsied by a dermatoligist, and nothing worked. Then I was tested for latex allergy which has now progressed to being air born. Just being in the same room as a balloon or an open box of latex gloves causes breathing difficulties and my body to itch. Latex comes in many forms and depending on the chemicals it was mixed with while being produced. I know if I have touched something with latex or breathed it because I start to itch and burn. So I have to leave the room and wash my hands. I also found out my bed was full of latex which made things worse at night.

Re: Intense itching all over body!

Mine was a result of kidney disease - get a lab test (CBC and urine test) to rule that out.

I hate to think of you taking all those medications. Since doctors aren't helping you much, you might try eliminating dairy and gluten products. Start taking probiotic supplements to help you deal with yeast. And avoid sugar. Killing yeast doesn't do much good unless you also prevent it from coming back.

Did you ever find out what was wrong?

The symptoms sound like mine: Itchy all over, from head to toe, no rash or raised bumps at all, but just a feeling of under-the-skin itchiness that drives me crazy!!

I know for a fact what is causing my problem: a neighbour in my building's incense smoke/fragrance is coming through the vents into my apartment. It started on the weekend. First the scent coming through the vents. Then my pet birds started sneezing. Then I started to feel itchy, and it very quickly grew very intense. Lasted all night, barely got any sleep at all!!!

The only other time I've encountered this severe reaction is at work. I discovered the cause: citrus-scentred swiffer dusters! We had them at work (which doesn't make sense since we have a no-fragrance policy), and I was using one and I got itchy from head to toe. So I stopped using it--but I didn't even have to touch it to get the itch effect. It could be 6 feet away, and I'd start itching like an insane man!!

I actually wrote Procter and Gamble (who makes the swiffer) and told them about my reaction, because I wanted to know what the ingredient was that was causing the reaction so i could avoid it in the future. No reply. Not surprising, they probably thought I was a competitor spy looking for the secret recipe, lol.

Anyway, just thought you might want to see if you have either incense sticks or scented swiffer, or anything artificially lemon-scented. I can't use Sunlight detergent either, I used to get a bad reaction from it when I was a kid.

Re: Intense itching all over body!

Hi there, have you had your bile acids checked? Intense itching can sometimes be a symptom of a very toxic liver. Anti Candida meds can cause overload of the liver and if you a killing off candida that also loads the liver. Itching indicates that the liver cannot cope with the toxins it is having to process. You need to slowly detox, and support the liver. Milk thistle is very good, natural juices, fruit, carrot and other vegetable juices, not root veg. Good luck!

Re: Intense itching all over body!

You could try giving all your laundry an extra rinse. On my latest washer, this is an option it has. I use liquid soap, Tide Gentle, and I almost always use the extra rinse. I have used Era in the past and that really made me itch. I think it is easy to use too much soap.

Re: Intense itching all over body!

Well Suz and others it is allergies.
I know it sounds CRAZY but it is. I took the time to sign up for this board so I can get the word out because there is an amazing LACK of information on this form of allergic reaction.

Here is how it feels:

Like your skin is crawling....like all the hair on your arms are getting up and dancing. Like the inside of your eyes and ears are itching like mad. As if you are getting sporadic itching here, there and everywhere and when it is really intense, the itching almost hurts. The first few days, if you are LUCKY, you can sleep through the night but as it gets worse, sleep is elusive.

I found an allergist that said this to me about 3 years ago: Ya know, 5 years ago, if you had come to me with these symptoms (I get no rash or hives), I would have told you politely that you were crazy and need to see a psychiatrist (after running panel after panel on the liver, kidneys and so forth and determined it wasn't some other medical reason). Allergists are now understanding that this is a REAL allergic reaction some of us get with rarely any other symptoms (I get a mildly weeping nose and the end of my nose may itch mildly but that is it for the rhino symptoms).

I did the allergy panels and I am very allergic to many things in my area (I'd move if my husband would come with me). I did the allergy shots for 3 years and it was heavenly bliss and then towards the end of my treatment, I started itching again. I asked the allergist to run the allergy panels again, HOPING I had just developed a new allergy he could treat and NOPE, no such luck, it was just that the shots had worn off, stopped working for me. He then tried every allergy drug under the sun and some in combinations and I was a walking zombie who was very itchy, bitchy and so uncomfortable that I was often mean.

I then begged for prednisone, he was hesitant but finally agreed that my quality of life was non-existent (and I was going to lose my job trying to exist this way). When the allergy season hits, I take low dose prednisone, it is the only thing that works to make it all quite bearable. I don't know of any other two "cures" for this condition. After the allergy shots stop working, it is prednisone. If I moved, I would be a lot better off because many of the things I am allergic to don't exist in other areas of the country.

I never had allergies before moving to this town (been here 15 years now). Sure, it sounds silly to blame it on the town I live in but when I asked my allergist why he chose to practice in my little town he said that it had far more allergens than places like Phoenix and/or Las Vegas (two big cities near us) and since he was/is the only allergist in town, he is doing a BOOMING business.

Had to share for those who are suffering out there and not finding any answers. I was lucky to have an allergist that saw the results of my allergy tests and said LET'S START YOU ON ALLERGY SHOTS. I was also lucky that the shots worked for me (they don't for everyone). Since my allergies are seasonal, I don't take prednisone that often...hadn't touched the stuff since last May but the spring is horrible for me and depending on what is blooming, I suffer.

I just ordered an Electrolux Air purifier for the home as I've never done anything like that before and I am hoping in a few weeks to have another layer of relief. I figure it has got to help to some extent right? We'll see

If you have any questions, I'll be more than happy to help where I can with information.
