Just found out I'm intolerant to diary products and corn

Hi

After suffering for some months from a chest infection and feeling generally run down, I spoke to a herbalist. She suggested I was intolerant to cow's milk.

Wanting conformation, I had a food intolerance test and have just had the results, which are:

Cow's milk: 97.2%
Sheep's Milk: 31.3%
Goat's milk: 29.8%
Corn: 45.9%

Apparently, anything over 25% is considered a positive reaction.

I now need to know what to do.

It would be relatively easy to cut right back on cow's milk (sheep and goat's, aren't a part of my diet), but will that help, or do I need to eliminate it 100% to see an improvement?

And will eliminating cow's milk make me likely to react more strongly to it if, in future, I accidentally consume some?

As for the corn, I'm not sure how that's affecting my health, so should I worry about it?

Any advice would be most welcome, as I'm new to this problem.

Thanks

Phil

Re: Just found out I'm intolerant to diary products and corn

Just how was this test performed? There are a lot of bogus allergy tests running around out there.

If you are actually allergic to milk, it must be completely eliminated from the diet. If you are just lactose intolerant, you may wish to consume it to tolerance, to keep your body from becoming even less able to digest dairy. (Severely lactose intolerant people may not be able to do that.) My husband eats one generous spoonful of ice cream daily to preserve his small amount of lactase.

Re: Just found out I'm intolerant to diary products and corn

Wow, I have never heard of a test for lactose intolerance! Many lactose intolerant people can tolerate dairy products in some for or another, or in small doses. For example, If I drink a glass of milk, I will feel sick, but if I eat a sandwich with a little cheese I'm fine. Also I can drink a moderate amount of hot chocolate if I have food in my stomach, but no cold milk no matter what. Lactose intolerance stems from an inability of the system to digest lactose, so you can buy milk with something called lactaid, which breaks down the lactose so that you can tolerate it. What symptoms do you get when you have dairy? Normally with lactose intolerance you might have stomach cramps, diarrea &/or nausea.

Re: Just found out I'm intolerant to diary products and corn

Hi, thanks for the replies.

It was a blood test that tested for 93 foods.

From what I understand, there is a difference between lactose intolerance and milk intolerance. I have the latter.

Symptoms aren't immediately apparent after consuming milk products, I don't think. However, the chest infections and general lethargy do appear to be typical.

Re: Just found out I'm intolerant to diary products and corn

I think that's an allergy test, not an intolerance test. Assuming that this was RAST or some other legitimate blood test ordered by a physician, I think you should avoid corn and dairy as much as possible.

Re: Just found out I'm intolerant to diary products and corn

Thanks for the reply. Can anyone tell me if it's important to eliminate cows' products or just cut right down?

Any books or websites that would help?

Cheers

Phil
