I have been having this problem for a few months on and off now. All day I feel fine, I go to bed fine, but between 3-5 in the morning I wake up having to cough. I have tried NyQuil, still wake up. Cough syrup seems to make it subside enough to go back to sleep, but I would really like to sleep through the night. I do have asthma, and have 3 inhalers for it, however I have also been informed by my doctor to be careful taking my inhalers because I also have a heart problem that the inhalers cause to act up. Any ideas??
Frequently, nighttime coughing may be the result of asthma triggers you were exposed to during the day. Or, it could be there is something in your bedroom that is setting you off.
Some asthma medicines, especially the rescue inhaler, can increase heart rate. However, others are safe for the heart, and you may want to talk to your doctor about increasing the dosage of your other medicines. Which do you take? Do you have allergies?
My inhalers are salbutamol, Fluticasone, and formoterol. I am also on a beta-blocker for my SVT.. I am allergic to dust, pollen, snow mould, pretty much spring, but this has been happening since winter. We are currently renting our place, so I may contact my landlord and see when the last time the furnace was cleaned.. maybe its the dust...
