I am having a rough time with an “allergic” reaction to my home air conditioning unit. I have two units in my house. I do NOT have a problem with the downstairs unit only the upstairs unit. This occurs whether the AC or the heater blows. When the air blows out of the vents, my symptoms are the worst. When the unit does not run for a while (day or more – I’ve tested this) my symptoms get better. Now, I say allergic reaction but it’s not the typical itchy eyes, sneezing, etc. I have with my seasonal allergies. I get headaches, earache, chest pain, and my throat hurts. However, when I take over the counter allergy medicine, it helps my symptoms. As soon as I walk into my home and walk upstairs, within a couple minutes (yes that fast) I start having these symptom. This only occurs in my house. No one else in my house is experience these problems and I don’t have any mold in the house. I had an air sampling done and nothing too unusual resulted. Also, I change my AC filters regularly, so I know that’s not the problem. What could be causing the problem? Any feedback or thoughts you have is greatly appreciated.
