allergies/trouble breathing

On aug 28 2011 at night i was almost ready to go to bed but then i started getting hot and feeling weird and then later i could barely breathe i was panicking and my parents nor i knew why this was happening so i went to bed thinking that it would pass the next morning the next day i was on the couch sleeping on and off short of breath but sure enough that night i had to go to the ER but they said its just allergies and gave me an aerosol treatment and it got a little better but today 1/1/12 it is still happening on and off i am sometimes short of breath or my chest feels tight or my throat feels smaller..but i got blood work done and it says i'm only allergic to cats and's dogs but i already knew that. why is this happening if im only allergic to cats and dogs all the doctors say its in the air the pollen and 2011 is the worst allergy season ever and they say i only have allergy induced asthma..it is getting pretty frustrating its not a fun feeling not being able to breath normally.and my main question is if i'm going to have this for the rest of my life???

Re: allergies/trouble breathing

It does sound like you have allergic asthma, but it should be treatable.

Bloodwork is not the most accurate way of testing for allergies, skin scratch is better. I suggest you see an allergist and get the skin testing.

In the meantime, taking antihistamines can help. You should also have a rescue inhaler to relieve symptoms when they bother you a lot, and possibly an asthma control medicine. I developed allergic asthma suddenly in 2010, and at first I was struggling a lot. But now, I take Flovent twice a day and I feel OK most of the time. I also went on allergy shots, and it's reducing my sensitivity to allergens.

What kinds of doctors have you seen? Have they prescribed any medicines?
