Question I need help finding a decongestant!

I really have very minimal allergies, but a LOT of congestion due to a odd broken nose and dusty working conditions.

I take pseudoephederine (Sudafed), but 1. it's expensive, and 2. it's not really recommended to take the 24 hour version every day for months at a time.

Phenylepherine (Sudafed PE) is ok too, but you have to take WAY too many pills throughout the day to make it last, and there is no 12 or 24 hour version. Plus, not recommended long term.

I don't really want to drink tea every 10 minutes, or rub anything on my chest or nose. I just want to take something once or twice a day that would work STRONGLY on decongesting.

Any suggestions?

Re: I need help finding a decongestant!

Sudafed is a good decongestant.
This was recommended to me by an ENT Specialist and I took it for some months.
In my country you can buy it in liquid form to take every four hours. This was good as I cant swallow pills.
I dont really know of a better decongestant. OLBAS-OIL is good as you can smear a little inside your nose or inhale it.
Cut down on milk products as much as possible as they make more mucus.
Have you tried Antihistamines even if you dont have allergys they can help.

You're better off trying to control the cause. A mask to keep the dust out? What about a saline rinse or spray morning and evening? Don't know where you live but here sudafed is very cheap....

Question Re: I need help finding a decongestant!

Sudafed is about a dollar a pill. So 30 bucks a month. Not really cheap...

Can't avoid all the dust or minor allergies.

Are saline sprays ok for daily use? I thought they 'wore something down' and weren't really a long term use thing.

Saline sprays and rinses are good for daily use. It's sinus sprays like Afrin, etc that you shouldn't use long term.
